This quilt was made for my brother-in-law and his wife. Bob was a decorated Marine who later became an attorney. He was a big brother to me. He and Mary saved my husband and me in so many ways, so many times. We lost Bob suddenly, without warning in July 2017. So much of our lives fell apart. I love Mary as a sister. She has been so courageous moving forward. She has helped me with so much of my own loss. She is always in my heart.
From 2016:
This quilt is for my husband’s oldest brother, though I also claim him as a brother too. And I love Mary as one of the sisters I never had. This gift was promised to them Christmas 2010 during the time my husband was in ICU on a ventilator for 32 days. They were there every day and night, taking shifts while I had to work and when they made me go home to just rest and feed the bulldogs. They have saved us through many times of crisis, and from so many of the hard times dealt out my life. Andrew and I are forever in their debt, but they let us just feel sheltered and secure. This work is inspired by Jenner by the Sea, a special place for them on the California coast. It is made of cotton prints, cotton batting, and silk and cotton thread.
